District-wide Implementation of the Blue Strand (PBS)

As of July, 2006, PBS became a mandate for eight of the district's nine middle schools. The long-term goal is to establish positive school-wide discipline programs in all district schools.

The district is currently in the process of implementing a Three Tier Pyramid of Support for both academics and behavior. Click on the picture to download.

PBS Framework

Each of the four strands are driven by structural standards. Movement between the tiers of support will be determined through analysis of data using a variety of progress monitoring tools.

Student Success Team

Movement from Tier 2 to 3 will be managed by school-based Student Success Teams using a problem-solving, progress monitoring process. The SST process adopted by SBCUSD was developed with input from the University of California-Riverside (UCR). The district SST Manual includes all necesssary forms.

The Pyramid of Support is defined in greater detail by the SBCUSD Guidelines for Tiered Support. This document identifies four critical strands of support -- one for teachers and three for students. Click here to download a copy.

District-wide implementation of Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) -- the Blue Strand -- is being directed through the district's Student Services Division, Youth Services Department.

The structural standard which drives the Blue Strand is the PBS Framework.
